I must be getting old because, last night I was pretty annoyed with people setting off their personal fireworks in the neighborhood.

Oh No Doubt, Fireworks are legal in Texas but illegal here in California. Which is good because when I lived in Louisiana someone always burned down a house from fireworks. People in Louisiana also don’t be set off fireworks at 2 in the morning, well at lease where I lived.

I saw them all over the sky when I came home from work last night, and they weren't from events.

The parking lot of the big fireworks store here had a bunch of California plates. All the stores in New Mexico too.

I'm up in Idyllwild for the long weekend, not a single firework was heard all weekend.

I always make sure to stop at Phantom Fireworks in New Mexico (year round fireworks) whether coming CA or going to TX...though in CA I've learned not to set off fireworks that shoot into the air, only ground fireworks.

Yes and no, fireworks sales are illegal in the city limits of certain Texas cities, setting them off in city is illegal too. But people still drive outside of the city limits to purchase them and bring them back.

Hah. Yeah, but New Year's eve too, so two nights a year.

Depends who's doing it too. Former neighbors at my old house were normal folks 364 days a year but total fiends on the 4th. They'd set off tons of fireworks their relatives would bring from North Carolina. In ten years, I don't think they missed the opportunity once. It's fun to a point but since there's usually alcohol involved, it can get ugly too. I'd usually go talk to them when they got started but getting zinged by bottle rockets and having them bounce of cars and such isn't really entertaining.

Aah, I loved bottle rockets as a kid and we set them off all the time in OC, where I grew up.

I made my own fire crackers using the Caps we used for Cap Guns. Just slit the edge of the powder section on a roll one at a time and accumulate the powder on paper, roll it tight with a smaller roll with powder for the fuse, and that one was less tight. Blew the arm off a chair in my backyard the first time I tested it.
