Sounds good to me, effective June 2022.

And of course some are complaining that it's not fair. Not sure how it's unfair, when in reality it's unfair to those businesses that have been abiding by the rules and regulations.

The San Diego City Council passed an ordinance by an 8-1 vote on Tuesday that will provide regulations on street vendors across San Diego.

Under the ordinance, vendors will need a business license and vendor permit in order to operate at beaches, boardwalks and other busy areas across San Diego.

The city tax permit most of these vendors would need is (was) under $100 last time I had one.
And the state is very clear that if you're selling merchandise, you need a resale license which makes you responsible for collecting sales tax, including any local ones. This is the bare minimum to operate a retail business and it's not a matter of fairness, it's a matter of law that everyone engaged in such activity has to comply.

I love the quote from one of the vendors in the article; "they’re just tiny merchants trying to make a little extra money and some are actually living off this"

Guess what? So is everyone else who's doing it right because they jumped through the basic hoops. So step up and do the same.

It's beyond time. They literally were putting up their tables blocking water fountains and restroom entrances. The boldest one was two women selling tamales right next door to a brick and mortar taco shop. Ya know, the one paying a mortgage or rent and property taxes.

Santa Monica up in LA is cracking down big time on these same type of street vendors. Especially the mobile food carts.

Oh look, you knew this was coming, the race card.

"As currently drafted the sidewalk vending ordinance is restrictive and punitive, further targeting and marginalizing immigrants, low income community members, and community members of color."

I wonder if that's going to apply to the hot dog vendors that come from LA and set up their carts after large events at Petco Park and SDSU.

It's funny, even the vendors at the border line in TJ have to get permits from the municipality of Tijuana, can't use the race card down there.... or maybe you can?

I'm not opposed to buying from street vendors, but their presence has gotten quite large on the boardwalk since 2020 and it's time for the city to get control over it.

What to do when COL is putting people out in the streets.... ? Get a hustle sell stuff make your own money. If people aren't allowed to do that you better be ready to support them.

As ugly as these set ups are at least they aren't asking for handouts...right ? Or should Newsom give them some of your money ?
