Help! Which hotel for teens? Do you favor one over the other? Is it worth it to stay on the beach?

Have stayed at both multiple times. I think Hotel Del is way better for teens, Grand Del Mar better for adults. Hotel Del not only has more to do in the property itself, there is also Coronado village and the beach, you can walk right out the door and access it. Kids can go down to the beaches on Coronado and scope the scene or ride bikes. Grand Del Mar is a nice property but the only amenities are restaurants, spa, golf and it's kind of in the middle of a suburban office park area with not much else to do without leaving the property. We really like Rancho Bernardo Inn which is a bit downscale in comparison but in a good way.

Not much to do at the Grand other than play golf or lounge at the pool; plus it's inland.

Def the Del for teens.

I’m leaning towards the views over the historic hotel. Good idea?

I’ve stayed at both, and 100% the Del. The Grand is kinda boring (and I’m a golfer) because you’re stuck on the property unless you want to get in your car.

For teens I’d also look into the Catamaran. I love Coronado, but there’s more to do for teens in Pacific and Mission Beach.

Views at Grand Del Mar are just typical shrubby hillsides... nothing special IMO. Have you taken a look at the Montage in Laguna Beach? Or Rancho Valencia in RSF? JW Marriot Palm Desert?

No. Never been to the Grand Del Mar, but definitely do the Del. Catamaran is also in a fun area, probably more so than the Del. Montage is amazing, but I don't think it's walkable? I don't get the allure of Palm Desert...no matter how nice the hotel is. Could look at La Jolla too, the La Valencia.

Oh man, I missed read that post. Yeah, there’s not really views to speak of at the Grand? The views from the Del will blow away anything you’ll see there.

I agree with everyone else that the Hotel Del is the better one to stay at with teens.
