I love Mission Beach even though I know it's very touristy and all that but hey it's so fun!! Esp if you have kids because of all the rides...

I also really liked Silver Strand beach..it's nice and peaceful, not really to crowded like MB>

What is your favorite beach?

Oh..does anyone remember near Mission Beach they had a place called Pirates Cove? It was a HUGE ball pit and had games inside as well? I heard they closed it down a year or 2 ago. So sad it was such a fun place for kiddoes!! Oh well..guess they didn't make enough $$ to keep it up..anyone know what they did with Pirates Cove, what is there now?

We go to South Carlsbad because it's easily accessible, not that crowded and wide enough for jogging and frisbee throwing.

My favorite beach (for the memories) is Mission Beach......had so much fun down there while I was growing up....it's a lil dirty compared to some other beaches like Silver Strand or La Jolla ....but the atmosphere is livlier, so much to do. I miss it.

We usually go to Cardiff or Torrey Pines... wide open, plenty of room, plenty of parking.

My favorite beaches are is the strip between Encinitas Blvd. and La Costa Blvd in Leucadia/Encinitas. I like them because of their remarkable lack of people, even in the summer (during the summer I choose a spot somewhere between Beacons and grandview or beacons and stonesteps). It's great to go to a beach in SD on a beautiful summer day that you are sharing with 10-15 people. I also like to run along this strip. The downside is that there is a considerable hike down the 80ft staircase to the beach. Antother is that the bluff sometimes falls apart and huge chunks of sandstone come tumbling down (a few people have been killed). But that's because they were sitting right at the base of the bluff. Just go a little farther away and you'll be fine.

It just feels more isolated, which it is.

Beacons doesn't have a staircase, just a trail that seems to change every year due to erosion:

Some other great beaches include anything in Del Mar/Torrey Pines and La Jolla.

Black's Beach for the people watching, although access used to be dangerous and steep so often there were few people there. Some weekdays I had it all to myself. And if there WERE a lot of people, half of them were naked and one or two even looked good.

Swimming in the southern Cal ocean is a bit risky, since there are a lot of pollutants .... I remember getting some kind of sticky slime on my skin once, and then a couple days later developed a rash that lasted some months.

I like Coronado. The bridge and town are neat to drive as a bonus.

Carlsbad was my favorite. I usually hang there when I'm visiting the area. Not too crowded, and awesome running path, and it is clean.
