North County doesn't seem to get any love on this board. We went there yesterday and took some pictures of their beaches but I must say, I'd never want to live there. It felt like a whole other city, not San Diego. I much prefer our beaches to anything north of Del Mar!

Solana Beach:

Staircase to Swami's in Encinitas. I can't imagine walking up and down the stairs every time I wanted to go to the beach! It seems like a lot of the beaches there are like this. Better hope you didn't forget anything in the car!

Cacti and the ocean...beat that, Arizona!

View of Torrey Pines:

Ok, MAK, what gives? How are you able to take all these pics while the rest of us are busy working?!? Great pics, as usual.

Don't know which pic I like better, the one of the view you get when driving along Torrey Pines State Beach or the banh mi sandwiches from Cali Baguette Express! Love both places!

MAK, which beaches do you prefer down here? The pix sure don't take anything away from Torrey Pines, Encinitas, Solana beaches. Though I'll say that Cardiff beach is a bit messy, Leucadia rocky, Solana parking-deprived&wet sand, La Jolla Shores-crowded, wet sand. Torrey Pines, windy. Boy, I'm picky as no perfect beach here while the Northeast suffers in January. By the way, there is a very nice rocky tidal pool area (best I've been too) if you go to LJ Shores, walk north past the pier and oceanography institute. Hundreds of seastars, seaslugs; octopus sited but was hiding from me by the time I got there. Great photo op

We used to love La Jolla Shores, but it seems like it's always crowded now so we don't go. I love Tourmaline, only because it's never crowded. There are never any people on the beach when I go, just a bunch of surfers in the water. Windansea in La Jolla is nice and I actually like rollerblading down from Mission to Pacific beach, even though many don't like either of those beaches. I've never actually laid out there, but I do enjoy the boardwalk (if you can even call it that). And La Jolla Cove is stunning, just a bit crowded for my taste. Oh, and Coronado...because of my 2 dogs, the dog beach there seems to be a weekly thing! I'm sure I missed some, but that's all I got for now!

I think the Silver Strand is underrated. It never seems to have that many people whenever I go.
