if you're not 21, you're better off near a college than in a beach town. the reason those cities are fun for young people is due to the number of bars/club they contain, which will be off limits if you are under age. house parties aren't all that common from my experience.

also, status and wealth is always a concern in beach communities because they are so expensive to live in.

Not in ones with a large percentage of young renters like PB and probably Venice.

I think PB is probably better than all of these for the OP. Clean beaches pretty much knocks off Venice or I might have suggested that too. HB might also work but it's in Orange County, which is more status/wealth conscious overall than Central SD or SD in general imo. Also, don't expect it to be tropical here at all.

I would still definitely consider huntington beach though ,i've heard its good for young people and its not that bad in terms of wealth and image consciousness as apposed to many other of Orange County beaches. Venice beach isen't clean? oh that’s disappointing, I heard it was beautiful. Thanks Anyone have any opinions on this please feel free,I need as many as possible. Of course i would visit these locations before making a final decision but your opinions are really helpfull as well

Get a job first, then save up the money and make a decision.

I pick Pacific Beach but both beaches are great for water & sand fun. Maybe Huntington is a little more crowded. Actually a beach like San Clemente is excellent for swimming but more family oriented. Newport Harbor is totally little kids. Pacific Beach seems more athletic.

I love San Diego - went to high school, college, and now I work in La Jolla. That said, I miss Huntington Beach soooo much that I have to go and visit there a few times a month (I lived in HB and owned a condo on Beach/Adams). I have to say no beach in SD is comparable to HB, Hermosa or Redondo - not in a bad way - they are just different. Considering your age, you may like PB or Mission Bay area.

venice is generally not a clean place, it feels older and run down in many areas. however, some areas of venice have very fancy new homes or rehabed older homes. it's not really a place for young people though. from my experiences, the majority of the 18-25 demographic in venice are homeless and live on/near the boardwalk. venice is weird place, it's the only place in LA where I've seen run down section 8 apartment buildings next to million dollar bungalows. however, the 'hood is slowly dissapearing as more and more rich creative types move in. the main retail street in venice (abbot kinney) is now one of the fanciest areas to eat/shop on the westside of LA, which is saying a lot as there are many to choose from.

anyways, you're definitely better off in one the areas mentioned in the thread title. however, i still think you'll be dissapointed if you're not 21. the beach is fun during the day, but at night you need to be of drinking age to really enjoy the area.
