My husband REALLY wants to live in San Diego. He's wanted to live there ever since he went to Marine Corp. Boot Camp there. We kind of just let the idea go when we started discussing the difference in the cost of living. We live in Tennessee now, and there would be a HUGE difference in the cost of living. I'm not certain about my husbands job, but my job in the school system does NOT pay enough (IMO) to equate to the price of housing. We looked up houses similar to our house at the time (3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1050 sq.ft.), and the prices were RIDICULOUS!!! And now we have a house that has 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, and 2900 sq.ft. I can't even IMAGINE how much that would cost. It would probably be in the MILLIONS!!!

But now my husband's there again because his brother just graduated from Marine Corp. Boot Camp. So now he's talking about living there again. I already know that we wouldn't have the kind of house we have now. And we have two little boys that have PLENTY of room on our 1.5 acres. So, I'm sure San Diego is great and everything, but would moving there be worth everything we'd lose? My husband said it was a possibility for him to go active (he's a reservist now) and we could live in Military Housing. So does anyone know what military housing is like out there??? Any suggestions on moving with two kids?? I've seen threads of people that have transitioned fine, but they were single or married with no children. TIA

There's military housing in Tierrasanta which is located just south of MCAS Miramar. If he goes active duty, you can apply to get a house in Murphy Canyon. There might be a waiting list. I grew up in both Murphy Canyon and Tierrasanta, they're in the same zip. The area offers 7 schools, so you're kids can pretty much walk to their school. It's safe and is a large military community. There's 3 shopping areas but is close to just about everything the city has to offer. From what I can remember, I don't think you would pay anything to live in Murphy Canyon or atleast pay little. I grew up there when it was Navy. When the Marines moved into Miramar, the homes were remodeled. They are duplex style homes (single level and 2-story) with a garage and a divided backyard. Military police patrols the area as well as SDPD.

If you have anymore questions about the area, I'd be happy to answer them.
