Sorry to vent but I really can't stand the weather here It's rarely warm. I thought SF had its best weather in September. Wrong! I guess this is a line that they feed the people who crave stereotypical CA weather

Don't even get me started on the horrible summer that we had here...

It's such a shame because I love mostly everything ELSE about this city. But IMO the lack of warm weather is a huge con. I think I would take the east coast climate over this climate. At least the mercury rises above 65 degrees for a good three months out of the year if not longer. It is like we are stuck in a never-ending gray and gloomy early spring...

Mediterranean climate my @ss!

It'll probably show up early October and be gone before you can really enjoy it.

SF has one climate year round with varying degrees of precipitation in the winter. Its a real treat when you go outside and the sun actually feels warm.

1. this is SF's rainiest/foggiest/cloudiest year in a while

2. September is usually the warmest month, though we have random heat waves at other times.

3. the weather has been well above 65 degrees many times this year. I recall one recent week, where it hit 90-100 degrees in SF multiple times...70 degree nights, etc.

4. SF is definitely a mediterranean climate, whether you like it or not.

5. SF has three zones. The quick, general rundown is: the western third of the city = lots of fog, not as much sun. Middle third of the city = lots of fog AND lots of sun. The eastern third of the city = lots of sun, not that much fog. You can grow tomatoes and peppers in Hunters Point for example...but not in the Sunset.

We've said over and over that this has been the coldest summer in any recent history. Even in San Diego summer, as it's typical here, never really came. It's take a year or more to fully adjust to the climate anywhere. It likely will be colder than normal this winter. Long range forecast are already saying it will be wetter than normal.

We had two days last week (I think?) where it was in the upper 80's and the week before two days where it hit 100 which was just AWFUL because except for office buildings and stores nobody in the usually cooler parts of the Bay Area has air conditioning.

All this September has been kind of weird, it will be in the 70's during the day often but then gets colder at night and in the early morning than it seemed to be in August.

Anyway move to somewhere warmer in the Bay Area if you really don't like the cold daytime weather. Oakland is about 5-10 degrees warmer and Walnut Creek is often 20-30 degrees warmer. But in an ordinary summer, the weather will usually be warmer. I lived at 18th and Church a few years ago and most days in the summer it would be sunny and around 70. This summer it's been more likely to be cloudy and 60.

Stereotypical San Francisco weather is cold and foggy...

Go to Socal if you're looking for stereotypical California weather. Or better yet, go like 5 feet, across the Bay Bridge. But not this year. As other posters have stated (and is widely known), summer never came to California this year.

Sorry you are disappointed. This weather is at least not normal.

As everyone else said, this has been an exceptionally cool and cloudy "summer." But there's still plenty of time for some nicer weather. I would be shocked if we didn't have a warm spell in October.

That's really interesting as we had the exact opposite here in the boonies. Last winter was the coldest in years and this summer, to include this week, has been the hottest and dryest anyone can remember. Not good!

As to the original subject of an Indian Summer, it ain't happenin' 'til after the first frost.

Funny, that's how we used the term on the East Coast too - Indian Summer is a sudden brief return of warm weather after the first frost had hit.
As far as I can tell, out here Indian Summer just means September.
