Oakland at least has some desirable, distinguished neighborhoods. If Hayward hadn't incorporated Fairview, they wouldn't have anything but, let's say upper working class. That said, it's convenient to the lucrative jobs on the peninsula and Silicon Valley, so lots of people find it to be a good solution that's not as expensive as other areas and not that dangerous. Crime stats are a little above US average but ghetto, really? Not in my book.

Its not a ghetto. It has its bad neighborhoods like any town of a decent size, but for the most part its just lower middle class or working class and is quite diverse ethnically and racially.

I went to CSU Hayward/EB on the hills so it was safe. Depends where you live though.

The flats are ghetto. Just check out on craiglist any of the cheaper housing and that is where you will find gunfire.

Stay in the hills and by that I mean UP UP not Fairview but really Hayward Blvd. Out by Chabot College isn't too bad. Out by the new Costco isn't bad.

Having grown up in Milpitas, that is an incredibly stupid statement. Milpitas has one of the lowest crime rates in the Bay Area and even the South Bay for that matter. It's got good schools and most of the neighborhoods were built in the last 25 years and range from nice to very nice. There are numerous million+ dollar homes in the hills with views of the entire Bay Area. Milpitas is boring, but definitely not an armpit. Get your facts straight.

In the 70's, 80's, and early 90's when I had immediate family living there, that is how they referred to it and that is what I saw of it. A PIT. BEFORE Silicon Valley, it was a dump. BEFORE the great mall, it was a dump. Some of us have been living here a very long time.

It will always be ugh to me. Even when I worked there it couldn't shake the image, You have Elmwood Prison, so as far as boring, I don't think so.

You're right. Some of us have lived there a long time, myself included. My parents have lived in the same house since 1976. I lived in Milpitas for over 25 years. There's nothing exciting or interesting about Milpitas, but it's not a bad place at all. It's just boring. Most neighborhoods are actually quite nice and personally I've always loved looking at the scenic backdrop of the foothills and Monument Peak. My parents live in the Sunnyhills neighborhood which is one of the oldest, least nice looking neighborhoods in Milpitas. Even there I feel completely safe and crime is almost non-existent. When I lived there I'd regularly walk my dog through Sunnyhills park and along the Hetch Hetchy waterway trail late at night and feel perfectly safe. Milpitas tends to have a bad reputation, but it's really not deserved.

I've never seen such a group of fear mongering, scared of their own shadow people, as the ones on this forum. Miltpitas? Are you serious? A Pit? What sheltered bubble do you live in?
