Hi everyone,

If you live in Hayward, or have lived in Hayward, I would really appreciate it if you could comment on whether the area surrounding 24080 Amador Street Hayward, CA 94544 is a safe place to live or not.

Here's the url of exact location in google maps: Amador Village Apartments

I'm checking out places in the East Bay and just want to make sure this would be a safe place to live.

Thanks in advance!

I'm glad I saw this post before someone could scare you away. Eyeballing this place on a map and seeing the word "HAYWARD" would scare most folks (including 99% of the East Bay posters here) away. However, I would actually say that this area is fine. I am pretty familiar with this area - as I have lived in San Lorenzo, San Leandro and Union City. I used to have a co-worker who lived off of Santa Clara Street and he didn't have any problems. That whole area is close to the Hayward Police Station and a lot of city and county offices. Hayward isn't the nicest city (schools are bad, crime, traffic, etc.) but I would still say that this area is okay. Just don't expect too much in terms of culture, etc.

I would probably say that the apartments/condos on the other side of the overpass are more desirable (D Street/Watkins/City Hall/Downtown area). This area has a more urban feel (walking distance to BART, weekend farmer's market, grocery stores, cinema, three surprisingly decent bars, restaurants, etc.) The area has a lot of riff-raff but, especially if you have a job in the Hayward area, might be worth a look. Two weeks back there was another poster inquiring about that area - as he had a job near the foot of the San Mateo Bridge. You can look for that post.
