Today I had a disturbing experience when I left the Bart station in downtown sf.

A mid to late 40s black man came up and asked me for change. I rarely give out spare change. I don't like to pull out my wallet.

I politely declined.

Next thing I know is he was speaking the most venomous words to me.

I'll paraphrase:
What, you won't give me any change. Stupid B. I bet you would <insert a ton of sexual expletives> with a white man. Stupid black Bs think you are too good for me but you ain't .....

He followed me to the edge of the staircase ranting and raving about my b*tchiness and worthlessness.

I ignored him.

This was definitely the most aggressive language I have seen when denying a homeless person.

I wonder if he thought I would feel like giving him some change after that tirade. Or what exactly that was going to accomplish.

How many of you have had a similar ridiculous experience?

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

It's been a long time, but I've also had run-ins with panhandlers.

That sounds like a difficult way to start the day, Jade. You have my sympathy.

I never even acknowledge them. You never know when you'll get a psycho, and I guarantee that the vast majority of beggars turn around and spend the money on drugs or booze.

Bay Area cities and SF in particular give a ton of aid to the homeless with taxpayer money. If they want aid they can get it. If they want to harrass me for beer money, forget it.

Homeless horror stories. Psychos constitute like 5% of homeless. Most of them are just drug addicts who have given up on life. I usually just give them change and wish them luck.

I've been jumped by mod cut homeless before, and wrote about it on another forum. I was literally in a bear hug by a huge black guy, about 6'3 and 250 pounds. Luckily I still have my teeth.

Pretty much all of them have mental health issues. I'm not going to gamble on whether Hobo Joe is having a good day or not.

I never carry cash in any city. So, it's impossible for me to give anything. Just a wave and "sorry, I don't carry change."

If you don't mind reposting your story or linking to it I'd be interested to read it.

The mentally ill are no more likely to commit crimes than anybody else. They are actually more likely to be victims of crime.

-from my high school psychology class lol

Seems to be true in my experience to be honest.
