I would say that Brussels, Munich, Frankfurt, Rome and Milan had similar styles. I have been living in the midwest for almost a year now, and the fashion is hardly exciting. Of course, I have heard the excuses from women here (it's not professional to dress stylish and sexy, blah blah blah), and my Euro-friends tell me it has to do with Puritanism. Even Canadian women (especially Montréal) dress great. I was up there last year and I was impressed by the femmes québécoises. Buenos Aires ... awesome. Caracas ... stunning.

Where are the stylish women? ... sigh ... Even New York disappointed me. Oh well, this is the situation, I have to live with it - for now.
I would say most women in the US dress for comfort, as opposed to walking around in heels and overly tight anything. Save those for the after hours wear, they're just not professional looking.

What I *have* seen a lot of on guys is the long-sleeved white tee under a darker teeshirt, and jeans. It's nearly ubiquitous. That, to me, is sooooooooo San Francisco. What's up with that?

Guido central. The following photos represent this common inhabitant of NYC and South Beach nightclubs. I think I can smell the cologne through my computer speakers.

Maybe because our weather is often too warm for sweatshirts, but too cold for a simple t-shirt? Could be more necessity-based than fashion, LOL... but now that I think about it, that is a common "uniform" here!

And OY VEY to those pictures above... cute kids, but they remind me of the Gotti brothers. My mom grew up in Philadelphia, and said the "Guidos" (sorry if that's an offensive term) were a dime a dozen there - and totally not her type. Probably not mine either, since I'm allergic to cologne, and don't like dating men who use a can of hairspray a day.

Btw, am I just getting old, or do the guys in that second picture look too young to be in a bar?? LOL!

People in a "club" setting isn't indicative of anyone, anywhere.
of course they're exceptions. but generally speaking Cali dressing style is mostly about dressing down. Also I'm not talking about just jobs, of course a job can and will mandate a dress code -- I'm referring to an individual sense of style even if there's no dress code required.
