Highway 9 is beautiful, but brutal if you don't like really windy roads.

Newbie, your comment made me smile. Around my area my tastes (crafts, computers, gastropubs and cafes) are regarded as very casual and laid-back.

Do not move to Santa Cruz looking for the bay area. You will just alienate yourself from the majority of us who like Santa Cruz the way it is. If you want the bay, stay in the bay. People here are not interested in bay area attitudes, bay area lifestyles, and bay area problems.

I think you would really enjoy Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz. There are really fun boutiques and pubs and restaurants. It's a great place to people-watch.

Snow, have you seen the art prints on sale in the local crafts/art/souvenir store there, by that French artist? Featuring Santa Cruz scenery? I love her work.

No, sounds lovely! My daughter is into "hippy" stuff, so we always peruse the import shops, and some of the jewelry shops when we go together.

There's a local gallery on the east side of the street, that sells locally-made crafts and jewelry, as well as art, that you and your daughter could both enjoy. She could look at the earrings, etc., and you could look at the art prints.

How are they not different?

SC is a laid back beach town, with a large blue collar element.

If you want gastropubs and start ups, stay in SF, Boston, or where ever you are.
