I bet locals will protest against the senior citizen. Finally a happy ending and one less criminal in society.

I like the retort to one of the original comments in SFGate regarding old guys with guns, "You do the math."

Hint, read the comments oldest first.

Yeah, makes up for the dozens and dozens of children killed every year when they discover their parents guns. Oh, wait.....

Seriously, the cowboy in me enjoys stories like this.

But in the end, I always wonder, why are so many carry-gun-freaks so damn afraid? They're just chickens. I have gotten through decades of living in cities, NY, DC, SF without every carrying a gun. Never got robbed. Never got into trouble.

Why do these frightened rabbits insist they need guns to keep them safe? Just stupidity. Fine if they qualify, if they're not mentally ill. But still tragic for the kids who find the guns.

Stats show there are thousands of people who become victims of crime inside and outside of their home. It's great nothing bad has ever happened to you. My parents live above their business. One night our dog was barking and looking down. There was a person trying to break in the side door who was holding a big knife. The business is about 20 minutes out of town, so it would take police awhile unless there was one patrolling that area that late at night. Luckily we had a gun and put the laser on his chest and yelled at him. When he saw we had a gun he took off running. So... it's great you've never been a victim, but yeah, I'll keep a gun in my home. However, that is no excuse for those idiots who leave a loaded gun in a space their children can reach.

Do you drive a car? What are you doing to prevent the thousands of children killed by cars? Banning them!? Of course not. You like to drive a car. And care about those dozen kids more than the thousands.

Good job on this guy for protecting himself and his home. Who knows what could have happened. He shoulda shot and killed the guy. Not just a knee shot.

The old dude will likely be charged.
