Very cool areas that the OP should check out, but I'd caution that if he/she needs to drive all over Northern California, these neigborhoods won't be a lot fun to drive out of or back into. It also isn't BART-friendly.


Downtown Oakland is another area to check out, there's nightlife and diining and easier freeway and BART access.
