Can anyone tell me how the Emeryville area right at the 580/80 is? Would it be a bad spot to commute to/from SFSU?

horrible commute. Driving or taking public transport would take forever. plus the toll and cost of parking will drain your finances in no time. Taking BART would be costly too.

Any more ideas? I'm looking for a one bedroom apartment, not a room for rent. For living, I really liked the vibe of Pleasanton/Dublin when I lived there. I just know it'd be grueling and costly making the trip into the city 4+ days a week. Is there anything similar to those towns, but closer to SF?

Does anyone know how The Fillmore Center apartments in the city are?

Sunset or Daly City would be your best bet (prefer Sunset)...or the dorms, but you said you're going back to school, so maybe it won't fit you if you are an older student. Don't commute from any city if it involves going over a bridge, trust me it will get costly and frusterating. The Filmore Center are really nice apartments with many young professionals. It's not cheap though, but nice.

You better not live in Hayward or you'll dropout. Im assuming you will not drive, thus, it will take approx. two hours to travel between the two cities. Like other posts state, Ingleside, Lakieview (My neighborhood, found a spot for 300, moved to a bigger place for $550. My own bedroom, share bathroom with one, share kitchen with 3), or Sunset. The nearest city outside of SF is Daly City, and is somewhat convient with about a 40 min commute time one way. If you want to live a dorm style life check out Park Merced, right next to campus. If you dont mind sharing a room, it will cost about $400. All prices are per month. Check Craigslist.com for rentals, everyone in that area uses that to list places. Watch out for scams, never pay in cash without some protection, contract, keys, move in date etc. Good luck to you, and I speak as a recent SFSU Grad who worked part time and lived near campus. Its not easy or fun so I hope you plan to just get in and get out. Finding a part time job out here to survive is quite hard. You'll barely get by and hope you can hustle or scam sum **** on the side. You'll need the extra cash SF is expensive, although mim wage is going up to $11.59 next year. I highly recommend starting at a community college before transerferring. It will cost nothing if you get some sort of financial aid. They may even give you money if your poor enough. Although this is a whole other tread. All in all, its possible and many dumb ****s graduate. Major in Buisness or something important, Engineering, Math, Science, CJ if you want to be a cop, its a great major at SFSU. Please dont spend 50 thousand ****ing dollars and get stuck at a ten dollar an hour job. You'll be a dumb monkey slave.

I'm a grad student at SFSU and I live in West Oakland. It's cheaper than SF and the commute isn't as awful as everyone makes it out to be.
