I am considering a job relocation to San Ramon...from Texas. My wife and I will be relocating with a high school age son (sophmore) who is a gifted athlete (baseball and football)...has potential to play at college level. Quality high school is most important...education and sports program. Just looking online, three cities seem to meet our interest and needs...Clayton, Danville and Pleasanton. Would appreciate any views on differences between the three.

Out of the three I'd pick Danville, it's the most upscale and has the nicest physical environment. 2nd choice would be Pleasantson last would be Clayton.

I'd agree with that. Clayton really isn't even in the same sort of area. I live in San Ramon and I really like it. It's more affordable than Danville or Pleasanton. No downtown but I hear the schools are good.

Danville would be my pick. Clayton is kind of far out there and not that easily accessible as its far from the freeway and BART. Pleasanton is nice but kind of cookie cutter and bland compared to Danville imo. Danville is the nicest and most scenic out of all of them.

I lived in Pleasanton for 2.5 years and loved it. While I don't have kids, I do know that the Pleasanton schools are rated very highly, and I would imagine that Danville is rated highly as well (although I never checked it out). I also don't know about either school's sports program.

If you guys want the kid to have a great chance at being scouted and can tolerate a Catholic school if you're not Catholic, you can send him to De La Salle in Concord. That school went to win 109 games in a row, and even beat college teams. If the kid is really that good, he's do well on the De La Salle team. It's a private school, so you don't have to live in town. Clayton is right up against Concord, if you wanted to be close.

I grew up in the area and you can't go wrong with either Pleasanton or Danville. Both cute towns (although getting congested!) and excellent schools (I am a teacher).

^^De La Salle does have a very good reputation for HS football. I know there's a couple of NFL football players who graduated from there.
