Wrong yet again.

There isnt one private school included and CHARTER SCHOOLS HAVE TO BE INCLUDED BECAUSE THEY ARE FUNDED BY THE STATE and are indeed PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

*yawns* at the novice.

Here's an article that actually covers the PUBLIC school system dropout rate:
Study puts Oakland dropout rate at 52% / Mayor decries crisis -- district questions research accuracy - SFGate
That article is 5 years old and so your basically saying that Oakland has improved its drop rate from 52% to 28% in 3 short years.

BRAVO!

Here is the latest version of that data, there is nothing more recent:

Dropout Reporting (CA Dept of Education)

The Drop Out Rate for the Oakland Unified School District according to the latest data available is 28%.

Now run along.

If you're paying for a high end private school, and still over 1/4 of the students drop out, you know that your school system is a dropout factory. Even using your statistics, Oakland is still has one of the worst school districts in the STATE, even when you include Private and Charter schools!

wrong as usual.that data does not include private schools.

You're right, I didn't account for reading comprehension failure.

Speaking of novices, charter schools do receive state funding but they are not REGULATED to the same standard as public schools because charter schools usually have accountability for producing certain results, hence, you have to be accepted to many of them (and their internal programs), and not just anyone can go to a charter school program, they have to be accepted in many cases.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
While charter schools provide an alternative to other public schools, they are part of the public education system and are not allowed to charge tuition. Where enrollment in a charter school is over subscribed, admission is frequently allocated by lottery-based admissions. In a 2008 survey of charter schools, 59% of the schools reported that they had a waiting list, averaging 198 students.
Basically, these schools attract the TOP students and are supposed to have extremely low drop out rates.

When you factor these schools and still get a 28.1% dropout rate (i.e - one of the worst in the state), it really shows how bad the regular public schools are in Oakland (i.e - The ones you don't have to apply to and get lucky enough to be accepted into).

That article actually tracked only regular Oakland Public Schools. So 52% -> 28% is inaccurate. For that you'd have to find out what the regular public school dropout rate is. My guess is nothing has changed much.

Yup, it's hard to defend a crappy school system and high crime rate when talking about the overall health of a city. Best for your to scurry away now.

Your constant Johnny-one-note rants about Oakland are tiresome, off-topic, and add little or nothing to the discussion.

The bottom line is you've been proven wrong yet again.

Oakland's drop out rate is actually 28% according to the latest data available. Yes that's high but the State of California has a drop out rate of 19%.

And actually Oakland's drop out rate fell from 36% to 28% in one year.

Oakland's 3 largest high schools actually have drop out rates that are actually below the state average.

Oakland Tech H.S. 17.9%
Oakland H.S. 13.9%
Skyline H.S. 11.4%

Dropout Reporting (CA Dept of Education)

So either refute this data or move on with your life.
