My husband and I are moving to San Jose this fall and we are not very familiar with the area. We are coming from Honolulu and have lived in a very rural setting with our dog and 2 cats. We are interested in finding out about areas where we might find a rental house with a ¼ acre or more. My husbands office will be located very close to the 880 and 101 intersect and a commute on the short side would be wonderful.

The only areas where you could find a rental property with 1/4 acre or more is not in San Jose but rather South of San Jose in nearby Morgan Hill. There is very little raw land available in San Jose. Morgan Hill is about a 30 minute commute into the area where you want to go and is more agriculture/country feel.

Default South of San Jose

Cities of Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy are your best bet. I'm sure you'll like Morgan Hill, it is a lovely town and people are very friendly here.

Thanks so much for your info. Sorry it took me so long to respond. The more we look around it looks like a good place to investigate further. Sounds like you live there - mind if I ask more questions as they come up?

Thanks so much for the info. It started us in a good direction. Hopefully we'll be able to visit the Morgan Hill area in the next few weeks.

Also look in the Almaden area, up in the hills south of the city. It's less likely you'll find something you want, but it's closer and not nearly as hot as South County.
