That's generally true about the weather. But places like Milpitas and Mountain View average a few degrees cooler on summer afternoons than Campbell, Los Gatos & Saratoga. It can be particularly noticeable when there are heat waves. Often, Mountain View will be in the low to mid 80s while it can be 95+ in San Jose, Los Gatos, & Saratoga.

Mountain View/Los Altos has a good mix of warm and not too hot and cool but not too cold.

The east bay right there just north and south of Berkeley is great however I found the sudden temp drop due to the rushing fog was just too radical for me.

I tend to tolerate slightly warmer weather than the slightly colder.

If you can live in a place where the temp can go from 80's to 50's in an hour near sun down then Berkeley/east bay is a great place.

Of course this is not the majority of the time, but it was frequently enough that I moved.

My son was diagnosed with SAD a couple years ago. Apparently Chicago has the highest percentage of people suffering from SAD at over 10%. For him it is generally worst at the height of the winter and interestingly summer seasons, but a lot less pronounced in the summer.

I personally find the climate on the Peninsula to be very nice. To me the fog isn't a big deal. Almost everywhere I have lived has experienced dense fog at certain times or it has been smog. I find the SF Bay area climate to be quite nice anywhere, but the Peninsula or South Bay is the best for me.

Can someone please tell me if the peninsula and the south bay get as much fog and gray clouds as the east bay areas of Lamorinda/Alamo? It seems the Lamorinda area is cloudy/gray from Oct. through April at least a few days per week.

Is this common throughout the entire bay area or just further north?

Excluding San Francisco and the coastal towns, the differences are minimal. It's generally cooler near the Bay and warmer in the inland hills.

This is my best guess...I'd say the South Bay gets a little more winter sun than Lamorinda/Alamo, but not by a wide margin.

Believe it or not, the coastal parts of the Bay Area get slightly more sunshine in the winter than the inland areas. The further inland you go, the more overcast it gets, esp. in Dec & Jan (think Stockton & Sacramento).
