Sorry, I am new at growing roses in Florida. I grow them in Pennsylvania but mostly old garden roses that bloom once. I never spray because I don't want the extra work and I don't care if my plants don't look perfect. I chose roses for my Florida yard that I hope will grow OK without pesticides/fungicides. There are all kinds of fertilizers to choose from, too. I'm still learning about gardening in Florida.

Dr. Malcolm Manners of Florida Southern College is an expert at growing roses in Florida. Here is a link to an article (.pdf file) he wrote in 1999. http://www.fshs.org/Proceedings/Pass...MANNERS%29.pdf

Lots of information on the Internet about growing roses in Florida, so if your wife really gets 'into' roses, she can learn much more about growing them. The GardenWeb forums have rose, antique rose, and Florida gardening forums where gardeners can ask questions and 'talk' with other gardeners. http://http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/ (broken link)

Enjoy!

OK, you absolutely MUST go to Hardin's Rose Nursery in Tampa. Super friendly people, helpful and they have lots and lots of gorgeous roses. They are all on Fortuniana root stock except for a very few antique roses. You will NOT be disappointed. They are only open on Saturdays.
