Our daughter has friends who are moving from North Port after selling their house (yeah) and are buying one off Fruitville east of 75
Apparently the inspection turned up issues with the sewage system---house in on an acre or more
So the sellers are supposed to correct the problem--don't know what it is--before they close and daughter's friends move in
This is older home--built in 80s I think she said--

They are staying in our house in transition
So we are hoping they get this taken care of before Thanksgiving and can move

Rule #1 in Sarasota and Manatee : don't ever buy a house not yet hooked up to a municipal sewer system

Yes--people try to save money by not paying for sewer fees but not my choice...

I'm on a one year lease with nine months left to go on my lease. Would the problem with the toilet (not flushing after heavy rain) be a valid legal reason for me to break the lease? This problem only occurs like a few times in a year (at most). In other words a normal shower or thunderstorm doesn't cause problems. It's the heavy ""prolonged" rain events that last 24 hours or longer that cause the problem. I've spoken to my landlord and she said she will come look at it but she doesn't think that there is anything she can do. (IMO there probably is something that could be done - but it would be very expensive - probably costing between $5000 to $10,000 to fix.) Anyway I'm getting a good deal on the rent - and if a very costly repair was involved I'm pretty sure my rent $ would be raised significantly after my lease expires.

I'm not sure that I want to move (and moving isn't an "easy solution" as a previous poster mentioned). Aside from this septic problem - there are many things that I like about where I'm living at now. Moving is stressful (and costly)- and you can never tell for sure what you might be getting into with a different rental. For instance on drive-by and inspection a rental could look good - but then later after having moved in you then notice that there is a new neighbor with a loud dog or that plays loud music. That's just one example - there can be numerous unexpected "surprises" that creep up after moving into a new rental. At least with where I'm at now I know exactly what I have - and I like everything except the toilet situation.

Then it sounds like the pros far outweigh the cons, I would feel the same if I were in your shoes. Nothing is perfect, and since your problem only comes up now and then it is fairly easy to live with. We are in our dry period now so you should be set for awhile.

Since it sounds like you have decided to stay living there and "deal with it"...possibly you can get a portable toilet with a holding tank that can be used as an temporary alternative for the days when it's too wet outside for your septic system to work properly. Then when the septic is back working, you can dump the contents into your regular toilet.

Here's one at Walmart for $90.
