Thanks for the great response! I've never had crab in an omlette before but you are the second person I've seen mention the blue crab omlette at Broken Egg.

I'm aware the food is never the best at the beachside dining establishments, and I'm always willing to pay as much or more for ambience/atmosphere as I am for food. It's all about the experience for me. I appreciate all the insight on the hotspots and the local favorites. I'm still pretty green here and always looking to get more information on hidden gems. Thanks again.

Jason, I'm with you - when we are in the mood for that beach front experience, we know the food isn't going to be gourmet, but the views, smells and ambiance are worth the price of admission, and Beach House does it best - it's the total beach experience! I also like their bayside restaurant Mar Haven. It almost puts you in a dream-like state.

Sorry, Ladywithafan, but the Bahi Hut is a real dive - and those "Mai Tais" taste like lighter fluid! No ambiance at all in that joint! lol

One more suggestion, it's not Gulf front but at the end of Siesta Key is "Turtles" on the Bay, and food is pretty decent, I think they may even have music. Not quite the beach experience, though.

Mar Vista on the north end of Longboat is a pretty good place. It's nice to have lunch out on the patio on the bay. I remember when it was a small little bait shack when I was a kid.

Moore's Stonecrab Restaurant, located right next door to Mar Vista, is also good. They used to have a dolphin named Jackie that would come up to the dock and give nightly shows. We used to jump in the pen and swim with her when the restaurant was closed. Not sure if she's still around but that was a neat experience.

Default Colony Resort has some options for on the beach eating!

For the best ORIGINAL-style Ceasar salad, prepared table side, at sunset, the main dining room at the Colony...or their Monkey Room with patio on the beach.

If you really want a restaurant that is on the beach, and has good food and drinks - you may have to drive a bit, but try South Beach it is on Gasparilla / Boca Grande. - Google it. You can walk right up to it from the beach, or right to the beach from it. The food is good too.
