My husband and I are considering buying a house on the east side of Wares Creek. The creek runs behind the property and would be accessible for canoeing. We've heard that the city will be cleaning the creek in mid January after a 20 year battle to get them involved, but that as of right now the water is quite polluted. Any info on the neighborhood and the health of the creek would be much appreciated.

It's an older, obviously, area of town, the creek really smells in the summer.

The neighborhood is old and historic, has a lot of charm. It will be a lot nicer after the dredging. Keep in mind that it can flood badly there, at least if you are right on the creek. I have seen homes that had a lot of damage in the past from this.

My in-laws live on the edge of that neighborhood. I agree, it has a lot of charm. I also agree that sometimes it smells pretty bad.

If it had been in our price range we would have bought over there.
