Does anyone know of any good areas to watch/photograph birds?

I've been to the rookery at the Venice Audubon place in back of the south county building for several days....and there are only a handful of birds there.

Fort DeSoto is always good - a little bit of a hike for you but it's closer than the Everglades or MErritt Island!

My fiance and I were driving through Prestancia looking at houses (we settled on a house in The Hamptons--it's PERFECT, Yahooo!), and she made me stop the car because...

...there was a gorgeous, majestic bald eagle beside a lake. It looked like a painting. It was really stunning.

We live in Baltimore. We don't see many bald eagles, as you might imagine.

The Bald Eagles are magnificent birds! I'm sure you'll like it there. It's a very nice community.

I was in your neck of the woods last week. I just love the Fells Point area over in Baltimore. We had lunch at a great little café called Bohemian Café. Well, actually we had dinner there to, the same day. It's over on Fleet & Ann in Fells Point.

Anyway, congrats on the new home!

The Robinson Preserve in Northwest Bradenton is beautiful. There is an observation tower which makes it easy to spot a lot of birdlife. It's a great place for walking, cycling and kayaking.

ColDeering,
If you kayak, this time of year you will get some great close ups of some of the birds that are nesting along the water! They won't leave and you can get right up close! Give that a try if you have time! If you get any great pics, post 'em!

there is a tour you can take, you can also drive thru on Wildlife drive for 5.00 a carload- there are also places you can kayak or walk the trails, check out there web-site and enjoy, that is my favorite part about Florida ----- the birds
