A national travel site has named a Venice hotel as one of the top 10 places in the U.S. to pursue a hobby. Inn at the Beach, on West Venice Avenue across from Venice Beach, was 10th on the hobby list, according to Hotelscombined.com. The Web site listed the city as the best place to look for shark teeth.

Funny thing is that I usually find more shark's teeth on other beaches around the area. Maybe the "shark's tooth capital of the world" label is causing Venice Beach to have it's sands picked over more than others. Hmm...

I'm not surprised, there is a boatload of active retirees and a LOT going on there.

For instance: though my membership in AAUW (Amer. Assoc. University Women) we heard a speaker tell us about SILL (Sarasota Institute for Lifelong Learning) which brings their speakers and musicians to Venice. The program is quite impressive and reasonable, $7/ticket.

The library there is always humming with people. It's located next to the Cultural Center (is that the name?) which is next to the Art Center which also has a HUGE list of classes available.

We spend about 3 days a week in Venice (but I still like Englewood the best).
