This is very true. The only reason 3-D is all the rage now is it's more profit for the studios -- first by forcing the theaters to install new digital projectors, then raising the tix price. There is NO artistic merit in 3-D. Even James Cameron did not want to make AVATAR in 3-D but the studio insisted upon it. I don't think it added anything to the film.

BTW -- Two new megaplexes are under construction out in Pooler near the airport and should be open by the holidays (thanksgiving) rush. Together they'll add about 20 screens to the market which may do something to mix up the number and frequency of films we get.

also even though Savannah doen't have a designated art house we do have several film societies that screen art flicks regularly including a gay-lesbian film series. And of course SCAD has the Sav Film Fest each October which is HUGE and draws some big names (they screened 'Precious' last year before it went into wide release). Best bet is to read CONNECT each week or DO in SMN.

I actually loved the 3D in Avatar. It looked amazing. I actually felt like I was a character in the movie, waiting for someone to throw me a weapon lol.

James Cameron invented a new type of camera for Avatar, so I am sure he indeed wanted to film it in 3D. Thanks for the info on Pooler.

One of my high school buddies moved back here (can you believe the odds of that!) and we can't WAIT for the games to start back up!! In my house it is girls (LSU) against guys (UGA). Too bad they aren't playing each other this year, it was so much fun on game night in the past. Today I wore LSU jersey and UGA shorts (so I could sit on them!) I get strange looks all the time! Look me up game time!

They are playing UNC at the Georgia Dome Sept 6. I hope that doesn't count as a home game. Should be a blow out. Hopefully.
