Remember people who stay in harm's way put the brave men and women who rescue butts off roofs in danger. It is not risk free to fly helicopters around.. Those who can't evacuate, our seniors and disabled, hopefully the community and neighbors will help when and where they can, before the storm! Gentle 1 mile, sounds pretty close- Matthew was only a tropical storm, really. A Category 3 or higher is a lot bigger. Is your place brick? High above sea level? If not, and you have family in the upstate I would consider an improptu "vacation" if you can leave, it appears to be a good idea. I am out to way up north, if it is more than a 1. Deciding end of tomorrow. Of course at the end of the day, we won't really know where it's going (in our area) until end of tomorrow or Friday... WSAV has good coverage so far.

Please be careful everyone. I'm looking at the latest models, several showing Savannah getting slammed though hopefully it will be weaker at that point. Please keep yourself informed and act accordingly!

My weekend obligations have been canceled, and thus I shall be leaving at earliest convenience. Most likely late Thursday, but most certainly by Friday. I've got plenty of family in Metro Atlanta and it's an easy destination / getaway. In my mind, it's better to go ahead and leave town even without knowing what the actually track may be. If we're missed, it's not loss or big deal. If we receive a direct hit (or even a glancing blow) the frustration of no power, services, open businesses and such makes trying to live miserable. My rule is never to come back until power and services are fully restored.

We left on a long vacation a week ago. Now we're in Europe and can't do anything about securing our house.

It looks like this is going to be Savannah's "long overdue" hurricane, with my hometown in the path shortly after. Be safe guys!

Be safe, Savannah. My girlfriend's family is from Hilton Head, so I'm worried. We go to Savannah every time I visit.

If nothing changes for the better, I expect we'll head up to central NC by Saturday. The thought of facing 95 N makes me seriously consider a quick death by hurricane. The house is brick and in Evac zone C, so we are not mandatory yet. Still waiting to decide.
