Plan on driving up from northeast Fl over Easter weekend. Any suggestions on the best historic tours, hotel to overnight at and some of the must places to eat at, would be greatly appreciated. Also if there are any special events that weekend. I am figuring on a 3-hr drive or less from Jacksonville, not sure of exits though. Looking forward to your recommendations.

Must eat at the Pirates House. Their buffet is wonderful. Also, try Mrs. Wilkes. The Trolley Tours are very informative.

Coming up from Jacksonville, I would take I-95 to Hwy 204. 204 will take you right onto Abercorn Street which will take you all the way to the historic district. Abercorn comes to a dead end at Bay Street and the Savannah River.

You'll get to see much more of the Other Savannah than what the usual visitor sees. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but you will get a better idea of how the city grew. You will also go through a section that is being restored. It's interesting.

Oh, once you get into the obvious Savannah area, 204 takes a right turn and leaves Abercorn Street. Ignore the turn. Just follow the traffic flow. You can't get lost!

The other option would be to continue on I-95 to I-16 and follow it into the city. It's not as interesting, but it might save you a little time.

Padjett2, that is indeed a big help. Can't always trust Mapquest especially when I don't have a finite destination in Savannah. So, thanks!

Jax airport to Savannah is 2 hours (140 miles)
A drive down Abercorn would be like driving Beach or Atlantic Blvds

I'd suggest coming into town on I-16 from I-95. Abercorn (204) is annoying. I-16 will drop you directly into the middle of downtown.

Ellie is correct on that! 204 and Abercorn can be annoying, especially during the rush hour. It's really of just a matter of seeing something other than what the usual tourist sees.

I-16 will skip a lot of traffic. There's a lot that can be said for THAT!!

Come and have a grand time.

I like the President's Quarters B&B. Breakfast at Clarys on Abercorn. Strolls along the river at night with a stop at Wet Willies.

Have fun,

Michael
