My husband and I were at the Convention Center today for a Christmas Show and when we got back to our car afterwards we had a flat tire. Thankfully my husband was able to change but it took a while since he had never changed one on an this vehicle. So while he was changing it I stood there and chatted away to him watching the people walk by us. I started counting, 74 people walked by us while he changed the tire and nobody offered to help. Now, he didn't need help, but nobody even stopped and asked if he would like some.

If this would of happened back in Pittsburgh where we are from, almost everyone who walked by would of stopped. I know this for a fact since it had actually happed a few years back and I was alone and a stranger changed my tire for me.

So my question is...Where's the Love? Heck, Where's the Christmas Spirit?

here if somebody stops, be worried. there are worse things than having to change a flat.
we have moved away from being one big emeshed family, to minding our own business.
and respecting boundaries and doing self care.
nice way of saying we live in an untrustworthy world.
codependent no more, and a lil parinoid

#1 They saw your husband had it under control

#2 If you were by yourself looking helpless like you were in Pitt Im "sure" someone would have stopped to help you. JMO

I have an infamous story of being in a coffee house on Broadway. New, first time mom. Newborn in the bucket carseat thing. FILLED coffee house, everyone drinking and isolating themselves into their laptops... Me, trying to open the door, hold my wallet, hold the baby in the seat, hold my cup - people sitting RIGHT next to the door, looking at me struggle... no one made a move.

That's Seattle for ya. People in their own little cocoon.

Bunky39 I would have walked right past you too. Your husband was there, and you were just changing a tire.

Jenbar you should know better. Why on earth were you trying to do it all at once? You just had to try and walk out the door with your newborn, a cup and your wallet?! You just had to rush somewhere that was so important you couldn't take the time out to put your wallet away and sit down and drink your cup of whatever. My goodness Jenbar.

I understand what yall are saying, I guess I just need to accept that things are different out here then from where I am from.

I have a friend out here ( yes only one so far) and I told her how shocked I was that we moved into a new neighborhood 2 weeks ago and nobody has come over to meet us yet. She laughed her butt off when I told here that back home people would of brought us welcome pies and bottle of wine or something to welcome us. She said she has lived here all her live and never heard of anyone doing that. I guess I'll be starting a new tradition in this neighborhood! LOL

Hi Pittgal! I kind of know how you feel. I have lived in the Northeast before and I know how warm and friendly people are up there...for the most part

Most other parts of the country aren't that friendly though. I have limited experience with Seattle but I don't think this is a Seattle problem...more like a "I don't live in the Northeast anymore" Problem...if that makes sense

BTW: I love Pittsburgh! It is a great town with a gritty reputation that it doesn't deserve. I would live in the NE either Boston or NY but my future wife doesn't like the freezing cold temps! Hence our possible move to Seattle!

I told this before but when I first moved into my Seattle home neighbors brought over homemade bread, pies, cakes and welcomed us to the neighborhood. In D.C. they were cold as ice. No one welcomed us in. I've been in my neighbors homes in 1 year more times than my combined time in D.C. When I had surgery and was cooped up in my house for a week two neighbors cooked dinner for me for the entire week. My Seattle neighbors are the absolute best.

I started out in the Mount Baker neighborhood and now I live in the Central District. Great neighbors in both. Some people talk about Seattle not being kid friendly but Mount Baker is the ideal kid friendly neighborhood. Great parks for the kids, the Pied Piper at MB Community Center, MB Kids Day in Park, soccer. The community center is the heart and soul of the community. During the summer (believe it or not) you see kids with lemon aid stands on some of the corners. Also this year you can come on out for the Mount Baker Christmas Tour of the Homes. It truely is a must see event during the holiday season.
