Monroe is kind of sprawling and industrial. It has a sort of bleak feel to it, but living in Duvall, I do travel into Monroe frequently, because there's a Fred Meyer there and also the closest fast food. There's also a prison there, so I wouldn't want to live there.

Monroe is a long commute for the Seattle area...cute downtown and wild wonderful wilderness less than 3 miles from town but I would hesitate to sign up for that commute. The schools are also not as highly regarded as some other school systems closer in. The upside for me is the closeness to nature and skiing but the schools would keep me from living there unless I did private.

You know, basically our decision did boil down to a choice between chickens and biking, and sorry chickens, the biking won out! Yeah, I love this forum too, got the best advice on just about any question, hoping to give back.

Duvall is nice, but getting to work in the atrocious traffic might not be worth it.

My tip: get there early in the morning and practice the drive to see if you can stand it.
