Hi,
i know this may not be a "seattle" questions but where would be a good place to stay if you want a white christmas? Close (1 hr or so) to a regular airport?

I was looking up towards the canadian border (but don't have passports) like Blaine- but there's no big airports around..
suggestions?

The snow (and the requisite cold temps) is unpredictable. Some years, the snow doesn't happen until February. Occasionally, it comes in Dec. And now that the climate is warming, there may not be any snow in Seattle anymore.

Leavenworth. DEFINITELY Leavenworth! Very scenic in the snow. Looks like Bavaria.

Leavenworth, for sure. There was some snow on the ground when we went to look at a house in North Bend.

Snoqualmie Pass? Not a guarantee, however. A better bet, although more than an hour from Sea-Tac, might be Mt. Baker.

But then, why not just keep heading north to Vancouver and Whistler.

You only need enhanced driving licenses. Relatively easy to get. [Not available yet, in California, however, but check.]

You can also apply for a Passport Card (PASS Card), which is less expensive than a passport ($55). Not good for international air travel, but will get you into Canada, Mexico, Burmuda, and the Caribbean. Valid for ten years.

Nope. I used my enhanced driver's license (state of Washington) to take Amtrak to Vancouver BC last summer. I have no passport. No problems whatsoever. A PASS Card would work just as well.

Note: I edited my last post to add that enhanced driver's licenses are not yet available in California, and add information on the PASS Card, which is available.

Vancouver is a great place to visit.

White Christmases generally isn't the norm in Western Washington. Mountains are more likely to have snow events.

The only problem is with the winter forecast saying that we are in for a strong/super El Niño winter, you might as well forget about expecting to see snow. Better to hope.
