Hmm I'm not an expert in the financial industry, but I'm quite certain that they'll want to see you face-to-face for one interview at the very least - Big Finance in (NYC anyway) tends to follow a long, traditional, rigorous interview process for juniors. That said, I imagine a smaller company (maybe a privately held niche investment firm? Hi-tech startup that needs help on an IPO?) would be far more flexible.

I would recommend getting a local VoIP number and putting a local address on your CV. Then when they call for a "prescreen," explain your situation (I would recommend d telling them that you're interested in relocating to Seattle for 'family reasons' or something like that, not a 'I'm bored and want to see if I like Seattle.") You won't know unless you try. Good luck!

Just an FYI for future jobseekers reading this thread - I was wrong, it seems like hiring activity is robust here, everyone just seems to take over a month between receiving your application to making the first phone call (slower than my experience on the east coast.)

Are you talking about in general or just your field? Perhaps they have too many applicants to go through?
Thanks for updating this thread. Keep us posted.

Btw, you notice anything different with the people there? Like any vibes you're catching lol..

I have no idea about any field but mine, although I don't imagine there'd be a huge difference between fields in companies where HR as opposed to the hiring manager is the first checkpoint.

(In my experience, the length of average active job posting is a good way to gauge number of applications - when a lot of qualified people are applying, HR is more likely to post jobs for shorter periods of time, whereas hard-to-fill roles can stay up for a few months. There's also the time-of-year aspect - budget season, vacation season, etc. can make a difference too.)

As for the people, they're similar to people everywhere but I don't get a "Seattle Freeze" vibe here at all (granted, I'm comparing it more with Canada and Northern Europe than with the rest of the US.)
