Tiger, your words are very true, I agree with them completely, I'm born and raised in Miami so know exactly what you mean. The city of my birth is extremely materialistic, flashy, ostentatious. Here is what I think many long term Seattle residents lament related to the talk of "free-spiritedness" in this thread. Seattle, when it cost less, was open to just about anyone who wanted to come here. People came (like me in 1989) attracted specifically to the open mindedness, accepting attitudes. Not just anyone is able to move here now, creative and artistic types are being driven out by the cost of living. Yes, it is open-minded, progressive and always will be. It just feels less "free-spirited" and more like a big city these days. In the midst of that, it is still a great place to live, if you can afford it.
