It is not that hot if you have AC. I don't know what breeze at 90 degrees you are talking about.

Yes, just standard window unit, that one came from Best Buy, $199 and does a great job in our bedroom, about 450 SF.

We have central air in our 2000 square foot house (new unit installed in 2014), and we run it a lot all throughout the late Spring and summer, keeping our home at a comfortable 72 degrees. Our electricity bill is only $10 higher for this past (hot) month than it was in the early Spring before we were running AC. These units are very efficient.
Granted I don't know exactly how many hours it runs per day and night (since we have to keep our windows closed at night due to noise outside that would wake up the kids, so the unit runs at night as needed, too)- we just set the thermostat at 72 degrees and it goes on and off as necessary- maybe it's not a full 8 hours that it runs but this is still quite a difference from the estimate you have.
That was an average that I got from a power company. It would be affected by efficiency of unit, home insulation, home size, and whether it cools off at night.

But have no doubt, it was a brutal July.
That's great news! That's what was predicted, too. Locals were telling me, that the local news said the heat wave was going to continue for another week, while the national weather people were saying a big break was coming to Seattle. I don't mean to harp on this, but I have friends in Seattle who were struggling through it all, and refused to believe that a major change for the better was coming. So I didn't know whom to believe.

In any case, I'm glad the temps are back to normal. And thank you for all your feedback! Great discussion!

I moved here from TX, so I am used to 100 degrees for months. But 90 here without AC just sucks.

I was a mean grumpy person for the last week.

Not really. Here in KC, particularly this year, when it "only" gets up to 90 this time of year, it seems relatively cool. Last week we had some highs only in the 70's and 80's and it made it feel like fall was on the way.

I'll say this much - 2 weeks or so of mostly 90-ish degree days without A/C has REALLY taught me to appreciate a cool, grey, "depressing" Northwest kind of day like today .

Yeah, it was really refreshing. Back into the 80s next week, but looks like low 80s. Weekend looks perfect.
