No problem. By the way, I grew up in far Northeast Tennessee and lived in Knoxville as well. So, happy to help any way I can.

Last three years in Seattle, I used an AC a lot in the one year that it got super hot for a couple of weeks…. Never even hooked it up last year. Didn’t need it at all. Just a fan on low was enough.

Trick is to ventilate with fans all night and then shut the windows during the day.

But that doesn’t work when it is smoky.

Yeah, I hook up my portable every year because it's kind of a pain (I have crank out windows) and requires the window to be wide open for at least 30 minutes. I don't wanna do that when the smoke rolls in... so I do it in May, even if I never use it for the season, I have it ready.

I grew up in New Jersey and we only had window units. My father would yell at us for using too much electricity if we ever had them running, so pretty much like no AC. .

I hear you! I grew up in Miami with a very frugal father (schoolteacher with 4 kids to feed), we mostly didn't use AC if you can believe it. The stone floors and paddle fans helped, we were always told to take showers right before getting in bed, had fans that pointed out of the house and sucked the heat out, though it only worked so well in the worst heat of the year.

Well no wonder you ended up in Seattle, perhaps the most temperate city in the mainland.
