Walmart Reaches Beyond Its Big Box
By Michael Corkery

Walmart on Wednesday announced a $16 billion deal to purchase 77 percent of the Indian e-commerce service Flipkart as part of its strategy to capture a piece of a fast-growing and increasingly tech-savvy market. The Flipkart deal, one of the largest and riskiest in Walmart’s history, follows a pattern of purchases over the past 18 months that includes a men’s clothing brand and a delivery start-up.

In many states, retailers do not have to return the money they collect if the cases are ultimately dismissed or the people are cleared.

Opt to not read that part?

Walmart needs to be very careful with respect to new businesses and even to new markets. Walmart is the most important member of the American retail community; it has saved billions for Americans

We'll always support Walmart's grocery business and their traditional lines, but this rapid expansion troubles me. I'd rather see them do simpler things, e.g., adding gas stations to existing stores.

Read the article. You don't have to be shoplifter, just a customer, in order to be falsely accused. That's the whole point.

I read the article. Shoplifting and other "minor" crimes are often laxly prosecuted, leaving civil action as the only remedy.
