We are a close-knit family of four originally from Long Island, NY. We moved to Austin, TX 3 years ago; we've had fantastic experiences here (making wonderful friends and adventuring around Central Texas) but we feel we need to get back to the East Coast. We want our desired area to have good schools, low crime, great medical, family fun things to do, a good quality of life and employment opportunities for my husband. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
They said sports security managment in the NC thread. If that means professional sports like the NFL, they ought to look in the Charlotte area. If that means college sports, maybe Columbia or Clemson.
I might suggest the Augusta, GA metro area including Aiken and North Augusta, SC and Columbia County, GA specifically. There are 2 large nuclear sites, Savannah River Site in Aiken County and Plant Vogtle in Burke County, GA. Fort Gordon in Augusta is also now the headquarters for the Army's Cyber Command, so lots of security-related jobs there.
Schools are pretty good. Most Columbia County schools are fine. In Aiken County, I would suggest North Augusta, South Aiken, and Midland Valley feeder zones.
For things to do, you have the Savannah River, Clarks Hill (aka Lake Strom Thurmond), Augusta Greenjackets (minor league baseball), Augusta University and USC-Aiken athletics (NCAA Div. 2), historic downtown Aiken, numerous big box retailers, a nice mall in Augusta Mall. Atlanta, Charlotte, Savannah, mountains, and beaches are all sub-3 hour drives. There is a great zoo in Columbia only an hour away.
Augusta a medical hub. University Hospital, The Medical College of Georgia, Charlie Norwood VA, Doctors Hospital, Trinity Hospital are all in Augusta. There's also Aiken Regional Medical Center on the SC side of the river.
