Most cities over 100,000 have all these problems, except what might be semi-unique in places like Spokane and on the other side of the US (Appalachia) is the frequency you see it in the open.

The problem gets worse when the bad areas start spilling crime into the good areas, that has happened a lot in certain cities, and less so in others. If you want no crime, go to Boise, I just hate the income tax in Idaho...

I was in Chattanooga not long ago and saw 2 people walking around in circles talking to themselves (not each other), most likely long long-term brain-fried meth addicts. Chattanooga doesn't have the run-down look of Spokane really, Knoxville does though (somewhat in some parts).

I never saw anything like that in Spokane, but the area did look quite run down like some of Appalachia or the rust belt.

Spokane looks like Wild Bill Midwestern meets Joe the Redneck...

The crime doesn't compare to parts of North Houston where I briefly lived, I would go to the convenient store and I saw at least twice where it had been closed because it had been sprayed with bullets (the windows were all shattered and there were other holes in the windows that weren't broke -- was my clue)... I didn't stay long but I still fear for some family that live there.
