it's a professional sport and big business - there is a reason why there is so much money in the league, the team values are through the charts and the owners rich
You are more than welcome to go out, pick up a ball and play - I've yet to have a commercial ever interupt one of my games with some buddies
Any game that isn't on TV will not have TV timeouts - they have a little bit better flow and are fairly easy to find
Even some of the teams/leagues that do not draw as much viewership to command such high advertising dollars during their play don't have as many TV timeouts as it's more important to those networks to stay on schedule
And soccer matches don't have commercials. I'm not talking about halftime. I'm talking about the actual game.
PBS has very frequent fund drives that eat up days worth of programming plus they receive government funding - they also aren't bidding to broadcast sports
Soccer players wear billboards, there is visible advertising on field level during pretty much the entire game play and there are frequent graphic ads throughout the game if not a static ad that rotates products - shoot, even the premier league carries a corporate sponsor in the league name .... there is plenty of advertising going on in soccer as well

having advertisiments on jerseys and on billboards that are out of play is not the same as frequently stopping the game to air TV advertisements.
I don't have a problem at all with advertising at stadiums or league's having sponsors. I'm specifically talking about TV advertisements and game stoppage.
It not only is a sport but its the BEST sport in the world.
