I like the mountains so was wondering if there are any cnc machining companies that are hiring. I am currently in school at a mature age and have a son so I am not your typical young college kid I was thinking Branson or Springfield might have some companies that do that kind of thing but would consider anywhere in Arkansas as well. Suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Guessing you have tried the many various internet-based employment options, placing resume there too? Along w/ searching local papers in areas of interest? Just tossing the sometimes-overlooked-obvious here... Such as googling results similar as the following: cnc machining "springfield, mo" - Google Search

Seriously, good luck...

Used to do that kind of work myself years ago. There are a number of shops across the region that do that kind of work. There is a place south of Branson called Branson Pattern Works that is pretty much converted over into CNC production. I am not sure if the working conditions would suit you though. PM me and I can give you specifics.
As for Arkansas, I'm sure theres lots of places but the issue will be pay. Pay is pretty low for people without any work experience (mostly due to the lack of unions that you have in other areas like Tulsa) and the pay in Arkansas is even lower. Check out different places but I was a mature person and I started at $6.50 and hour back in 94 without much experience in the field. The starting wages for most jobs in the Branson area were pretty uch the same and nowadays they are about $8.00 an hour so I assume that the industry is similar. A guy with 5+ years can pull about twice that but since you are just getting out of school I'm not sure you'd be able to manage for the first couple years.
How about Tulsa? The pay is way better for industrial labor there.

My fiancee simply won't consider Tulsa. I'm working with her on that, lol. I just want to visit the Ozark mountains area more often and she is willing to make a few visits. How did I discover the Ozark mountains? Well, I had long been interested in visiting the area but just didn't have the time. One time I was visiting my folks who live in Tyler, TX, and my dad gave me a new route to try out. I followed it to a point where there were two highways with the same name but one had a toll and the other one didn't. I didn't want to pay a toll so took the other one. Ended up in Arkansas...at a town that had a casino..I think it was Fort Smith or some such name! I drove through the mountains and my Sidekick went in and out of range until I got to that place. I walked into the Native American owned casino and asked if I was really in Arkansas. The Native American lady said in a drawl, "Son, you're gone a long ways from home!" I eventually went home on highway 412 through some of the worst lightening and rain storms. Had to keep paying tolls every time I entered and left the Native American nations lands. Expensive lesson learned! Loved going 85 mph though!

Ever since, I've wanted to go back and visit the Ozark mountains!

Leggett & Platt is always hiring. They are located in Joplin, Missouri. Leggett & Platt Incorporated

There are a few others in this area(Springfield) that are well established. Let us know if you need any further assistance. Good luck with your search.

Update: got a job with low pay and crappy benefits. Worked for a year at that company. They required everyone to undergo 1 year probationary period! I had to put up with a screaming supervisor. I quit and a few weeks later my team lead who had worked there for 5 years quit too. I did find a job before I quit though. I work for Goodrich Goodrich > Home and all I do is cut out panels that are made out of composite or metal composites which are then assembled into ultralight aerospace cabinetry. Pay is better and excellent benefits. Am moving to Bel Aire which is north of Wichita so life is good!

I am very happy for you Ted. Good jobs in the Ozarks are extremely difficult to find. Paw Tucker is correct about the local industrial jobs. They all want a lot of something for nothing.
