What are St. Louis's famous food? (St. Paul, Vienna: restaurants, stores, things to do)

I was wondering, what is St. Louis famous for? Like Maryland has famous crabs, Chicago has Chicago style pizza and hotdogs, the south has like southern food, etc.

So what are some of the famous foods in St. Louis and where do you get them?

Toasted Ravioli- I like Zia's on The Hill for Italian

St. Louis Style Pizza- IMO's is the most popular, but there are other places.

Gooey Buttercake- I think Gooey Looey is usually voted best, but I usually just get one from the grocery store.

Crowns Candy and Pappy's Smokehouse have both been on the Food Network. Sweetie Pie's Kitchen has been on Food Network and also has its own show on Oprah's network. Jilly's cupcake bar was on Cupcake wars. The Hill (Italian) is a well known area of St. Louis that has great Italian food, a good bakery, and also an Italian grocery store.

St. Louis is also the beer capital of the USA. In addition to Anheuser-Busch there's dozens of microbreweries. Off the top of my head there's Schlafly, Urban Chestnut, Six Row, Civil Life, and 4 Hands, to name a few.

EDIT: And how could we forget Ted Drewe's frozen custard? It'll change your life!

St. Louis is also known for pork steaks, St. Louis style ribs, and for Provel cheese (which makes just about everything better!)

I've never heard wings be mentioned as an STL food. However, the wings at Tom's and Culpepper's are very good.

St. Paul Sandwiches are also a St. Louis creation (despite the name)- an Egg Foo Young Patty served with Salad between bread. They're still available at a lot of St. Louis area "Chop Suey" restaurants.

I believe St. Louis also claims to have created Crab Rangoons and Iced Tea although those are still up for debate.

The 1904 World's Fair saw the first public introduction of Ice Cream Cones, Fairy Floss (Cotton Candy) Peanut Butter, Hot Dogs and Dr. Pepper (although not created in St. Louis). 7Up is a St. Louisan creation however.

Historically, this. And you can get them at many various grocery stores and restaurants. In recent memory, specific restaurants and types of food have gained as much if not more popularity. I'm a native Saint Louisan, and yes, if put in front of me, I'd eat all three, no problem. But no, I wouldn't choose them on my own much of the time. Others here are probably mixed. Some probably eat them on a regular basis. Some sometimes, some don't. One of my favorite things about recent years of St. Louis, is the change, the new types and styles of cuisines and restaurants, increasing in the area.

But those are aome of the historic foods of local popularity, and there are also long time stand by restaurants, some mentioned above as well, that are considered St. Louis things to do.

I would also add Vess soda to the above lists.
