While Missouri as a whole is conservative, St. Louis is not by any means. In the outer suburbs it gets more conservative, but that's like in any major city. I've never, ever got a 'conservative' vibe from The Lou. St. Charles maybe, but not here.

I dunno. It appears to me that the St. Louis metro area (as a whole) tends more conservative than liberal...it's also true that the majority of the St. Louis population lives in the aforementioned suburbs/county rather than the urban core. With a population above 2 million residents, nearly 1.7 Million of those residents live in the surrounding counties.

Socially, St. Louis is probably as split as many cities, with the younger population leaning more liberal, while the older population leans more conservative. The difficulty in some respects to this is a lacking influx of young professionals, while there are young professionals and entrepreneurs throughout the region without a major engine pushing for greater development with that demographic, it will take quite a while for the city to really evolve towards a more liberal mindset/agenda - whether good or bad.
