you need a MO DL or ID and be able to pass a federal background check.

Really? I didn't think we needed any background checks in the state of Missouri. From my understanding, you need money...and an individual/company who wants to sell you a firearm.

castroaj, my question for you is-- exactly WHY do you "need" to buy a gun to live in St. Louis??
a. There aren't nearly enough guns in the city now, so let's bring in more;
b. I'm just that fearful for my life (but I won't move away because a gun will make me totally safe in my home; or
c. My gang requires that I pack heat.

i've bought a gun from a gun shop in MO recently and that was what was required (no waiting period though). If you buy from a private seller there is no background check.

Really? Come on now, people require guns for numerous reasons...normally it's because, they like guns. If you don't like guns, who cares...but you don't "need" to have a gun in order to "want" to have a gun.

And in properly trained hands, a firearm can make a big difference between life, death, or personal safety. Remember the story about a week or two ago of the mother who shot the intruder who entered her home, I believe this was in Oklahoma.

Background check is always required when purchasing from a dealer.
If you want to get around that, buy from a private seller. Though they might still do the same, since their butt is on the line if you turn out to be ineligible to possess a gun.

Sorry if I came across as flippant. But the OP's statement "I need to buy a gun for my own security in St. Louis" sounded like an extreme case of paranoia about crime in STL. I was just curious what they were thinking.
