Here are some pictures I took from the USA - England match at Old Post Office Plaza. The first one is the entire crowd at the beginning of the second half, second and third were taken an hour before the game so the crowd wasn't big yet.

Why is the game not being shown on the giant silver viewing screen?

Could one of you soccer people please explain an aspect of your fine sport to a hockey player/fan?

I saw highlights of the Greece/Nigeria game. Nigeria had a 2 on 0 break on the goalie and STILL failed to get the ball in the net!!!

Anyway, apart from exceptionally horrible shooting, my question is - in soccer, if there is a 2 on 1, does the defenseman (defender?) take the shooter or the open man?

Just curious, thanks!

Its the opposite of hockey, the one defender takes on the person with the ball.

Friends of mine are downtown at the Dubliner as we speak and here I am stuck in the office getting by with text message updates

Marksman, soccer is hockey on a grass without sticks. The appeal of soccer for me is kinda similar to hockey, which I also love. There is constant action but the big moments come only a couple of times per game. You need to be an extremely in-shape and fit to even play. It is easy to learn and difficult to master. The fans are so into and obsessed more than any other sport in the world.

Hockey is probably my favorite sport but soccer is probably #2...maybe (American) football.

Wow. I missed both games today but followed online. The pool is wide open now. As long as the UK wins their next match, they're still in. Both the US and UK control their destiny. In other words, a victory for each team means they advance.

Yes, you're right, if USA and England win their last games intheir group we should both go on to the last 16. USA deserveto go thru because you're playing with passion and a neversay die attitude. England are running round like headlesschickens, so who knows. Some of our players are being madeto play out of their normal positions, and don't seem veryhappy doing so - we shall see.

Will be off work tomorrow to watch. Debating which bar down on Washington to watch it at but leaning towards Tigin.

It will be a blast either way as long as USA does what they have to do!
