I just purchased my 1st Subaru today. I bought a sweet, used 2014 Outback 2.5i Limited with 15,000 miles on it. It was a lease and the people who had it were a retired old couple who never drove.
I am a 48 year old Straight, Christian, Conservative lady. I even ordered a bumper sticker for it that says : I may drive a Subaru but I am NOT liberal.
I live in Idaho and need the AWD. I have put off buying a Subie for YEARS due to the stereotyping of the vehicle as a Lesbian-Mobile and Lib-Tard Mobile (no offense please, just what they are called by some people and not my personal feelings). (I have very short hair and wear minimal make up which doesn't help LOL!).
I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. Great for groceries, hauling my 13 year old daughter all over, higher up than a lot of sedans, and great visibility.
It is stupid how vehicles are stereotyped, but there is a lot of truth that rings to those stereotypes. In the end, do I care if the person next to me assumes I am an old lesbian progressive? Not really. What matters is that I am happy with what I drive and worked hard to purchase.
Maybe it comes with age, but I could really give a rat's ass who drives what, who IS what, what someone assumes....as long as YOU are happy, that is all that matters.
Some people just can't stand the fact that Subaru is above average in most respects, and might not realize how much better they are compared to 98% of all other vehicles in winter given the price point.
First i've heard about Subarus being synonymous with being Liberal, me thinks you are over thinking this political bs, its just a car made in Japan, if you like it enjoy it and stop worrying if its a liberal or conservative car.
The brand will see strong continued growth as evidenced by the expansion at the Lafayette, IN plant.
