I believe this has been mentioned on a previous list in the NY forum, but this may surprise some people. Keep in mind that parts of the F-M and I believe Cazenovia SD's are in portions of the town.

The wealthiest town in Central New York isn't Skaneateles or Manlius; It's this rural farm town | syracuse.com

The article is quite misleading as far as tax advantages are concerned. While our town taxes are indeed reasonable (for New York), we pay school taxes the same way everyone else does, based on assessed value of the property. So, we pay the same school tax rates (we are live in Pompey, in the FM school district) as someone who lives in Manlius or Fayetteville. That said, I am happy to pay taxes despite never having children attend school here, as long as I percieve the money is well spent. It's hard to argue with FM's stats, or the very nice shape of the roads around here.

This census tract covers the boundaries of the town of Pompey: Census Tract 015700 in Onondaga County, New York

You can view information by census block group as well, with 2 of the 4 block groups having 6 figure median household incomes.

Well, I think it has to do with the homes in the northern portion of the town, which is primarily in the Fayetteville-Manlius school district. I believe that parts of that general area is in the Cazenovia and Jamesville-DeWitt school districts, with maybe a little bit in the Fabius-Pompey school district.

I'd also wouldn't be surprised if Skaneateles was the most affluent town in the area and it is likely not too far behind.
