Is it still true. Is syracuse still a good place to relocate in 2010. I've been doing some research and I can't find anything on Syracuse. I'm looking into Appleton Wisconsin. There are better threads about it.

It depends on what you are looking for. What do you want in a new area?

You need to actually research.

But, by all means, go ahead and base a huge move on random forum threads. I hope you find the hoop jumpers you're looking for...

Several things to consider...

1) $500K buys a LOT of house around here - you might want to spend more like $300 to $350 and invest the rest to earn interest for paying taxes. In this area, a $350K house will typically carry a combined school/property tax burden of about $12K - $14K annually.

2) The vast majority of our Jewish population lives on the very eastern edge of the city adjacent to Dewitt, in Dewitt itself and increasingly in the eastern suburbs of Fayetteville and Manlius, which are a bit further out. If you're Orthodox and need to walk to services on the Sabbath, then you'll most likely want to be in Dewitt, as that's where the two largest synagogues are located . Our local Reform synagogue (Temple Society of Concord) is on the east side of the city, just below the SU campus. The Jewish Community Center (lots of good programs for kids and adults of all ages and open to all faiths but with a focus on the Jewish community) is also in Dewitt.
