I have been thinking about buy an Ipad. Could anyone tell me if they are safe to do banking and online buying on?

They are as safe a laptop or desktop. What makes it unsafe, just like any other devise is a network that's not secure. In this case, the fault is not with the devise you are using. Another example: is the network you use at home relatively safe? Is your computer connected to a router/modem that's password protected? In this case the iPad is as safe as the other components on your network.

I do most of my banking on an iPad.

I do most of my on-line shopping on my computer. It's easier on these old eyes.
