I'll be vacationing in Orlando in the next few weeks and will bbe driving over to Tampa to meet up with the inlaws who live in port richey. Can someone recommend a beach in the tampa area thats kids freindly , restaurants on the beach, etc. Closer to the zoo would be cool to since we plan on visiting the zoo in Tampa too.

Thanks

Port Richey is quite a ways from Tampa, and Tampa has no beaches anyway, Only beach in Port Richey is a tiny little beach called Green Key, if you want classic Florida beaches you will have to go further south to Clearwater and south, about an hours drive., as Green Key going to get old fast, here it is

Yep, no beaches in Tampa - or close to Lowry Park Zoo. I'd recommend St Pete Beach or Ft DeSoto then drive about 45 mins to Lowry Park.

But I prefer the Bradenton Beaches (Holmes Beach).

I would recommend Indian Rocks Beach. It's a quieter beach with not a lot of commercial overdevelopment, yet there are restaurants within walking distance of the beach.

I went to Green Key when visiting family in the Port Richey area. If you're not from the area, you'll like the beach. I was warned that I wouldn't be impressed but I really liked it. Yes, it's small, but it's a nice beach.

Honeymoon Island is a nice beach. Kid & Pet firendly. It has a restaurant right near the beach. It is $8 a car load.

Clearwater Beach, especially near Pier 60, is perfect for kids. There is a huge covered playground and there are many restaurants within a short walk.

Indian Rocks is less commercial, but is a beautiful, family friendly beach.
